Where to Start in Singapore?

Skyscrapers, lights, colour, food, smell, tastes, friendly, Universal. The list goes on of things me and Suzie have managed to do in Singapore over the past 2 days. After we landed and headed to the hostel to drop the bags off we weren’t expecting it to be so easy to get through the Singapore transport system but it was even easier than the London Tube system!!

We headed out towards the city and came across a local area that was famous for its Moroccan and Turkish restaurants, at the end of the road was this huge beautiful mosque that really was spectacular. We had a walk round it and found about its history and it had been there for over 100 years, that was pretty special. It was time to eat so had a look round and on one of the corners there was a Singapore café that was heaving with locals. So with no better excuse we ha

d to head there for some food and navigate the huge menu! The waiter who served us was an absolute star and recommend the fresh lime juice that was very popular. Well it was bloody nice and so refreshing!! With me not being a spice fan I asked him something to recommend and he told me about the naki goring which is a special chicken fried rice served with an omelette on top, thankfully he gave me the chilli sauce in sachets which I politely put at the side of my plate.

Let’s just say this dish was brilliant, much better than any of the microwaveable stuff I’ve had from Aldi or even the Mayflower in Headless Cross. They come nowhere near it. Suzie opted for a spicy dish which was a soup with noodles, prawns, fish and chicken. It looked delightful oozing with colour and smells but I had a little spoon of the soup and well let’s just say half that fresh lime juice went straight down my throat!! Oh and I forgot to mention our meal came to 14 dollars! 2 drinks and 2 mains for £7. Superb.
We met a lovely couple who lived in Singapore, the woman was from Singapore and her husband from Nigeria. They were really friendly and recommended us heading to the Sky Tower in Marina Bay in the centre of the city to catch the views. After a taxi ride that would have cost about £15 back home the driver turned round and said 8 Singapore dollars, which is about £4! I couldn’t believe it!

We headed into the Sky Tower and we paid the 23 Dollars to go round the top, not really expecting what we were about to see we stepped on to the huge platform that was full of tourists and locals alike. Well let’s just say this view that I saw next tops anything you can see from the Malvern hills or a hotel in Watford overlooking London. The pictures below will do it justice so I’ll keep quiet till you see them! Totally Mesmerising and I definitely saw what I possibly one of the best placed football pitches in the world!

So after a busy day it was time to head back to near the hostel for a large Tiger beer and a good old catch up on sleep that we were both seriously craving from the 2 connecting flights to Singapore!

12000 miles. 24 hours of flying. New Zealand but Home for 5 months.

And so, apologies that this is a bit late but there'll be a few posts over the next few days and weekend!

A lot of people have said aren't you scared of going to New Zealand? Especially for 5 months?
What am I to be scared of? Not a lot really.
A country that is known to be one of the most friendly places in the world, heading there in summer so having an average of 20 degrees everyday and most importantly living for 5 months next to the sea in one of the most beautiful scenic countries in the world.
No I for one don't think there is much to be scared of but more things to look forward to.

I think it's more the changes to life while I am out there.
Having to watch any live football in the early hours of the morning (Spurs vs Man City in 2 days at 8.45am), wearing shorts and a t-shirt everyday (its a tough life), the list can go on.
But I think the one thing that is a major issue is having to wear sun cream EVERY day, every day?!
For one thing, I hope my skin gets used to the sun else that's going to be a right pain and real expense!

But then all I have to think of is back home of temperatures below 5 degrees and raining a hell of a lot more than here, although we had a big rain shower when we arrived on Sunday and they don't call it windy wellington as a joke.

So I will post about our travels in the next few days through Singapore and the copious amounts of flying time.
It hasn't really hit me where I am yet but keep having to look at the map below and the picture beneath that to know I am here for a long time and I cannot wait for it.
